blog hop and giveaway: quilt album!

hey there! i've been asked by Pat Sloan to try out the Quilt Album software.
i told her i'm a ninny with software and asked her if the dumbest of the dumbest in figuring out software could figure it out...she laughed (i think she thinks i was kidding but just ask the husband i ain't kidding!) and she said "it's simple to use! give it a go and see what you think!"

so i have. and because i've only scratched the surface on it...i'll let you know of the things it CAN do and show you the one thing i DID do on it. and btw yeah it's pretty easy even this nincompoop figured it out.
yesterday rachel of PS i quilt showed you how the quilt album helped her create her pattern cover. someday i'll be as cool as rachel and launch my patterns into paper patterns. but for now i let her be the coolest, cause she is. :)
what i did with the program was print out all the stats of my favorite quilt. i'm going to try to do this for all my quilts so that i can keep together all the pictures measurements, dates of when i made it, the quilter who quilted it, and for who i made it for. notice if you will in my picture above that in my "made for:" section i wrote ME. cause i'm done having my own babies...but i still love baby quilts the most. i'm funny that way.

and dude, you can make pattern covers (like rachel) and get this you can make cards, and business cards as well!
it's good stuff. give it a shot!

okay so i've been asked to answer a few fun questions so you can get to know me a little more:

what one item do you really want to add to your studio and why?
organizing units form ikea. i want one big wall of organizing so i can organize all my fabric in colors and stare at them. :)

what color would you paint your living room if you had to do it right now?
um, white. yeah i said it. maybe a tannish white that you can hardly tell its tan...or a mccloud white blue like my bedroom.
i'm not a huge fan of color on walls, i went big and painted the boys' rooms gray, which i love but i struggled with it...i like things to look crisp and clean, and i like to feel peace whenever i sit in a room and to me less color more monochromatic helps me feel that. quite a different change from what i was doing when i was younger...but as life moves on, i think peace and simplicity helps me feel best. wow...loaded answer just about paint! ha!

what is the last piece of fabric you bought?
amy butler's midwest modern seen in my newest bag pattern:

and last one for me:

share a little known fact about yourself
i have no filter sometimes...so i ask my husband to read my "personal" posts any time i can...and if he rolls his eyes i know it's okay, if he laughs i know it's great, and if he says "you are so NOT going to write that are you?" i have to check double check for myself and think about talking to someone face to face while reading it...i've been known to delete posts about things like pap smears, and other things that i wont mention. but they WERE funny. just so you know.

ready for the giveaway!!!
one lucky V and Co. reader will win their very own quilt album software.
just leave me a comment telling me what color you'd paint YOUR livingroom. no need to get all emotional like i did, but if you want to go ahead and tell me why you chose that color!

{winner will be drawn april 6th.}

I love sage green with a dark ragged on glazing, it just seems to make everything else in the room pop!

Thanks for the giveaway!

Mine is currently behr's evening symphony and I still love it. It's horizontally striped, alternating matte and glossy finishes. However, in the winter when it's gloomy I do want something bright and springy, but not enough to repaint. ha. emmillee(AT)gmail(dot)com

A light golden color. it needs a little (everything in this house is beige).

Andrea said...

a soft creamy ivory.

sandytoesbride said...

I would paint my living room a light teal - I am very into sea glass colors right now.

Tara said...

We JUST finished painting our living room! It's gray with an accent wall of YELLOW! It's so bright and sunny. I grew up in a house of white, so now I do just the opposite! My house is full of color! That way I can keep the furnishing more neutral, then just change the aint and accessories any time I need a change!

A.J. Dub. said...

I would paint it a light buttery yellow. It's a celery green right now, which most days I like but I could use a little more light.

bdaiss said...

Mine's a sagey green and most days I love it. But I've been known to repaint as often as my husband will let me. Unfortunately what I'm itching to repaint right now is the foyer...which is 2 stories tall. So I'm betting that isn't going to happen any time soon.

Thanks for the chance to win!

My living room has a light and a medium shade of tan/brown. I would like a wall going up the steps to be obrown.

Kathryn said...

I just painted my living room a rich yellow. I think it will play well with many different accents during the year. Kathie L in Allentown

Deanna said...

Mine is SO ugly, with nasty wood paneling, so ANY color would do, but I'd go with a soft beige on three walls, and a fun muted teal on the fourth!!!

I currently have a sage living room but I find myself coveting Lindsay's (@the pleated poppy) white walls that make such a bright and cheerful blank canvas for all her fun accessories.

Brenda Ginos said...

I don't know about my living room, but my future kitchen (the hubster and I are still apartment living...yuck) will be a lovely avocado green. I can't wait! I grew up in a boring white house (sorry, V, I know you are passionate about that white ;) ) and I am ready for some color....mostly a tannish or light gray color for the whole house, with rooms like the kitchen, bathrooms, etc... brightened up a bit with some color :)

Laura said...

I think a light-ish cool blue; it has to look crisp and clean. For now we are stuck with a khaki-ish color because neither of us wants to paint the high walls.

pat sloan said...

Oh I'm cracking up over the filter.. that is SO FUNNY!!!

Thank you for being on the blog hop.. you ROCK!!

Betsy Lynn said...

A warm beige, I like to change out the room with different pillows and throws, the beige works well with just about all color schemes.

Back Porch Extras said...

I would have my sister who loves to paint (crazy gal) paint one wall a shade of green or blue and the other walls a light beige. I want to hang my oil painting I did of the Smoky Mountains. I think it will help bring out the colors

Callie said...

I am kinda with you. Something light, just barely off white, so I can change the colors of pillow, mantle decor, rugs, or chairs as I please and leave the walls nice and neutral.

Cloudmom said...

Love following your blog. I would paint my living room a mocha color.

Yellow! We live in Alaska, so I had to add my own brightness to the house when it's so dark outside in the winter.

Great giveaway! I would paint my living room a barn red.

I think either pale blue or turquoise - colours I love

Beverly said...

I just love your blog. I would paint my living room a white, not a white/white but a white leaning towards tan. I'd love to see your bedroom-that sounds heavenly. I finally reached my goal of quitting smoking and I just want everything white. Couldn't do it before.

Katy (France) said...

I want to paint my living room any other colour than the dirty yellow that the last owners painted it..I am partial to a nice bit of grey, but I think I will end up plumping for an ivory or a cream..!

Ashley said...

In the house we are in now (rental)..white!

The paint now is a yellowish tan, with contrasting brown on yellowish tan on opposite walls. Not my favorite. I need to get a paint sample that matches the color so I can remember never to buy that color.

Elisa & Mike said...

I would paint a lovely blue gray!!! Thanks for the giveaway and good luck!

Debbie said...

Cute answers to the questionnaire! Next time we paint I think I'd like to paint one wall in the orange family and one wall in the green family.

vanos said...

I'm just getting ready to paint my living room and I am going to paint it a Swiss Coffee color. I think that will match just about everything!

Lisa said...

I think I'd paint my living room a light yellow color. I also like clean and crisp and the light yellow would make the room lighten up a bit. Of course, I rent, so it's really not a possibility.

bethanndodd said...

That program looks very handy to have around :) I would paing them a boring neutral tan/beige/khaki color so I could change out the pillow on my couch any time I wanted and it would all still "go" together!
Thanks!

deborah said...

It's white now, but I would like to paint my living room a light blue-ish gray. Something soft and soothing -

RenegadeQuilter said...

I have kahki on my walls now & I would like to go a shade or two darker on at least 2 of the walls.

Thanks for the chance to win!!!

A soft, gentle green. Something soothing for those rough days.
Love your blog.

We just remodeled our living room and painted it a rich brown with white trim. We love it! Thanks for the giveaway.

I love snowmen and snowflakes. I'd paint my living room a pale blue and stamp glittery snowflakes all over it. BUT... we live in GA (moved here from Alaska!) so it probably won't do. Thanks for the giveaway.

Quiltalicious said...

Love the look of the software. I'd paint my living room the colors I just painted it - mayonnaise for the walls, arctic white for the ceiling.

sewbee2 said...

No paint in my living room, its wallpaper and wainscoting. However, I have to paint the doorframes - avacado for me.

lsparamo said...

It's a pale yellow right now w/white trim & lotsa burgundy furniture. I kinda like it still, but if I HAD to paint it, I'd go w/an ivory w/white trim--LOVE that (that combination is in my kitchen and den right now)

VickiT said...

I love this program and want it myself very much. It's been on my wish list for awhile now after seeing it awhile back. It looks amazing.

The color I want to paint my living room is Frosty Morning or ShellBrook, both of which are a whitish color with a very slight purpleish tint. The reason for that is because a few years ago we bought a purple sofa but when it was delivered it looks more like a deep plum/eggplant color rather than the purple I wanted. The blue walls make it look brown (ICK!). I need to brighten up that room and hopefully with the slight tinge of purple in the white it would help bring out the purple in my sofa more.

ecuakim said...

I'm with you. White is right. :)

Jana said...

Well, I seem to be painting every other room some shade of green lately. However, the living room is staying tan. If I paint it again, it will still be tan. Goes with the furniture.

Barn red, which is the color it already is & I wouldn't change it for the world! Poor hubby painted many many many coats of red to get it that way & I absolutely LOVE IT!

Jessabells said...

I must confess that I just painted my living room this past fall and I think I finally am statisfied with the color I chose (I've painted the living room 3 times in 5 years and the room is huge). I painted it a very light blue. Thank you so much for the opportunity.

soren2go said...

a very light sage green might be nice but then I'd have to change all the furniture so realistically, I'd probably choose a mushroom color....very light.

Jen said...

Hmmm...I think I would defer to my husband on this one! I have no decorating gene! That's what's great about quilts: you can throw any color you want in there!

Dee M said...

Right now mine in a nice Khaki color I love. Might try a barn red or other deeper color next time, though. Love deep shades, my kitchen is navy.

Sandy said...

I'd like to paint it a tan or light gray. We painted a few years ago and what we picked was a tan. It dried more of a pink and I hate it, but I hate painting more, so pink it is for now. One day we will fix it.=)

Muireann said...

We're renting so this probably won't happen, but I'd paint 3 walls cream and the fourth with windows a bring accent colour. Red or lime green. I can't wait until I can paint walls whatever colour I want!

Cammie said...

I LOVE grey and my whole house is a pretty warm grey, although, I have no idea what shade. It is not obviously grey, but almost white. The pure-white trim makes it look fantastic.

krisgray said...

A nice light warm beige to highlight our cedar trim.

Tracee said...

I know that this is going to sound pretty boring, but.....I would paint my living room in Antique White. I love the freshness of this and then you can add color to your room with cushions and furniture Etc...

Jodie said...

An Aqua color to match with Bliss fabric. Then a red sofa with Bliss pillows, because I love it!

Dix said...

Would paint the Living Room shell pink with dark taupe-brown accents.

Melody said...

I would do a soft aqua / turquoise if I had the courage... :) like the above commenter, I too love the Bliss fabric line and that's been on my mind lately.. :)

I would love to do some bold graphic design in gray and white, then ad pops of teal with new furniture! However, I doubt my husband would let me get away with it!

WHITE!! I LOVE my white walls. It is SO much easier to change out the pillows and flowers and accessories when I want a change in color - than it is to paint the walls!! I have two sets that I rotate - yellow for spring through June - and red for July 4th through Christmas. Works for me!

Beth said...

I would paint my living room a soft taupe so I could hang any quilt up and no color clash.

I love the color of my living room. It's called cookie crumb and speaks to my love of all that's sweet!

Caroline @ Atelier Caroline said...

I actually did a few months ago - It's bright yellow under the chair rail and a very light buttercream above it. The house is back to a wood so it was a bit dreary with the tan wall color that was there when we bought the house

Becky said...

Our family room is a cool mint green. I'd like to change it a bit and make is a light, light, light green. Thanks for sharing your review of this software!

KevynB said...

I would paint mine a very light grey, almost white. I like to bring out the color of a room with the accessories.

Tan is the color I would choose, because I want to get away from off white and I am not quite ready to go Bold red

Jayne said...

well... I like cream or a warm tan. If I could paint my room with real sunshine I would do that.

WoolenSails said...

Our living room joins the dining room and hallways, so it stays a sand white color. I hate pure white and the sand warms it up. It also is a good color since I have all my pieces and things i make decorating the house, so it goes with everything.

It's a light yellow right now. I think I would just repaint all of the scuff marks from the kids =) Then I would throw in a bit of stenciling or wallpaper I think!

3beans said...

our living room is painted Tobacco Road from Duron and I love it - except for the fact that it is painted in a flat finish (hitting myself on the head for that one) and is very scuffed after 5 years. Unfortunately, they don't make the color the same way anymore and can't recreate the exact color, even from the formula. bottom line, I can't clean it and can't touch it up soooooo, I would repaint the whole room with the new formula of Tobacco Road.

cpup40 said...

I would paint it an eggshell color (a light tan color) that way it makesvmy small living room loom bigger than it is.

Darlene B said...

I would paint the living room a deep warm gold. It just makes me feel all warm inside. Thanks for the opportunity to win this great software program.

TheaM said...

I am like you about color on the walls... my idea of a color is everyone else's idea of WHITE with a HINT OF TINT!!!

I want to paint my lr a very pale TINT of soft warm gold... it's been white for ten years, I'm so ready for a (subtle) change!

...and I'd love to win that software!

Evelene S said...

I would paint my living room a pastel yellow. bimbi9atverizondotnet

Elena said...

A light blue, probably tending toward aqua. Our first floor is pretty open and I think the yellow of the kitchen and dining room would contrast nicely.

lovetostitch said...

There are so many colors I like, but usually have an Americana theme going on, so my walls are a warm beige - then I bring color in everything else for seasons. But red does go with everything!!!
Hugs!!

I would go with pale yellow. Oh please let me give that software a try.

Loose Threads said...

I have pale yellow on the walls right now and I am in a spring painting mood and was thinking maybe a nice cream would be nice - I wonder if I will ever find just the right colour - now the software that I could play with!!!

Annie said...

TEAL! And my accent color would be lime.

Pam said...

I would go with white. I have had a neutral creamy color for years (renting) and would love to have white in the family room and kitchen and etc, etc, I love color, but there is something to say about just white walls.

nikki said...

I would paint my living room a very light gray blue...but just an accent wall, with all of the others a crisp white.

Beth said...

We're having this conversation constantly. I would love to repaint in the same eggshell white, which I think makes a really nice background for artwork. My sweetheart longs for colors so bright they vibrate. I have begun suggesting a soft tan or gray. He's putting forward the idea of a single accent wall. This could go on for a long, long time.

Thanks for the giveaway.

I'm in the process now of getting ready to paint- I just haven't chosen a color yet. I too like the more muted colors and am thinking some shade of grey. Not sure though! Hopefully this won't take too long to decide!:) Thanks for the chance!

Hope I win! I'm painting the living room and kitchen. Living room will just remain pale yellow and kitchen is yet to be decided.

Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting said...

I'd paint my living room a butter yellow. I think it would bring in 'the sun' to the room as well as bring a touch of color. I'd love to paint the whole downstairs that color. Good luck with the job hunt. We were there several years ago. That is why we are in Illinois now.

Erin said...

Thanks for the giveaway. Best of luck to you with the job situation.

I would paint my living room a golden tan color. Subtle, but with just enough color.

Denny1600 said...

If my husband weren't looking, I'd try to paint it a very light creamy yellow. If he were, it would probably need to be an ice blue or grey color. I could live with that.

I would paint it a celery green, light, medium or dark, it wouldn't matter. p.s. I have had the paint for about 3 years already!

Lindy said...

It is so great to 'find' all of these neat blogs/sites! I love my colors in the living room, but the bedroom blue was a mistake. Hubby laid down for a nap first day after painting, said, "Feel like there should be fish or angels on the ceiling!" (the next day, there WERE fish and angels, taped up there!)

Debi said...

I have chosen a beautiful shade of green. Not dark green, but a lively green. My hubby hates green, but has agreed that he could live with the color I chose!! I also have the perfect quilt to display when it's painted...:)

Mine is already a pale muted sage green which I love. I'd probably pick that color again if I were doing it all over again. But, if I were trying to make my husband happy, I'd go with taupe - he likes less color. :)

Right now my living room is a cream color, which I like a lot. But if I were redoing it, I would paint at least one wall something very bold, like eggplant, or red.

We have a mocha/brown with ragged glaze in a lighter tone over top. The ragging helped hide the ugly walls. They were warped, and even though we did prime, and use good paint, spots were showing through... ragging solved the issues!

I'd repaint with the same green I have now. It brings the outside in and frames it perfectly.

I would repaint my living room in the same Navajo White from Benjamin Moore. I have lots of color in all the other rooms but like a neutral in the more "public" space. Thanks for a chance to win.

Everyone urged me to paint my living room a color, but I went with an Antique White which is barely beige (lighter than tan) and I think it has a pink or rosy undertone. I really like the very light blue that you used in your bedroom-that gives me an idea for my bedroom.
Thanks for this chance to win Quilt Album, which I would love to use.

Right now I'm feeling a buttery yellow - maybe because it's so gloomy outside. Next week I'll be feeling something altogether different - like a warm taupe. Anyway, thank you for the chance to win that fabulous inspirational software.

A bordeaux red would be my choice at this moment - it spells drama but at the same time has comforting cosiness to it. I love this colour!

If I was allowed to paint in my apartment, it would be a bold blue. I'm tired of all plain white walls.

I would paint it a light grey!

My living room was just painted something called Indian Summer - a soft caramel-like color. Love it!

Jenn said...

I'd paint mine the same color it is (light cream...not heavy), but in semi-gloss instead of flat.

I used a soft gold with white trim. Love it! could I use the Quilt Album to record the quilts hanging on the walls?
